Pf Narayana Prasad A, Retd., Associate Professor & State Nodal Officer, Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru

-        is well known for establishing Placement Cells in 430 Government First Grade Colleges of Karnataka in India. He engaged in bring awareness amongst rural students of Karnataka about Career after Degree. His work spanning across 3 decades. It is heartfelt to note that even after his retirement from Government Service, he still involved actively in bringing awareness about various Jobs, both Government & Industry

  and  https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/202122%20GFGCs%20Placement%20Cell%20Activities

Even though he hails from world renowned city Bengaluru, much of his Government Service was in Rural & Deep Rural Colleges. It is in deep rural Government Colleges, he felt there is a need to bring awareness about Career after Degree for the College students.

Initially it started on a casual note, but as the years progressed, started recognition especially amongst College Students. This led to the establishment of Job Information & Placement Cell or JIPC as it was fondly called. No sooner students enter final year, to participate in JIPC classes became part & parcel of the academic activities.

Initially, getting Industry to Rural Colleges, especially Government Colleges, was an impossible task. This is due to many reasons. On one end, Industries were getting skilled students at Metro cities and on the other end, getting job ready skilled students in rural areas was a challenge.

Pf Narayana Prasad A attended Infosys Progeon trainings. Soon after this, started organising Special Classes on Saturday afternoons and Sundays full day. Wherein, awareness was brought on Interview Skills viz., Analytical Skills, Communication Skills, Basic Computer Knowledge, HR Interview Skills, etc., and also trained.

These trainings were well documented and shared amongst Industries. This attracted major MNCs viz., Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Accenture etc., and they started visiting rural Government College for Campus Drives. In a span of a decade, 1000 of students were trained without expecting any monitory benefits. And 100s & 100s of students got placed in all major MNCs as well in Government Organisations.

This was noticed by the Commissioner, Department of Collegiate Education(DCE), Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru. Commissioner brought him to the Head Office as Nodal Officer for the entire State, with an intention to implement the Placement Cells in all the 430 Government First Grade Colleges of Karnataka. This was a Great Honour. by then, DCE had completed 55 years of this establishment wherein nearly 3 lakhs students were studying in Government Colleges, and Placement Cell was not made Compulsory. There was no program on guiding Degree College students about Career after Degree. They were thought Academic and left high & dry in choosing and preparing for a better Career.

As per the Government Policy, Commissioners were changed every now & then. But Pf A Narayana Prasad spared there not only in establishing Placement Cells but also, guiding & Implementing. To do so, he travelled more than 45,000 KMs across every district of Karnataka, organised 100s of Workshops for both Professors & Students to bring awareness about the importance of Placement Cell for a College and best students can get benefit out of it. As there was no TA/DA provision to pay for his travel, he spent on many a times, his personnel earnings. A high level Social Cause implementation.

This resulted in 1000s of Rural Government First Grade College degree students getting selected to various jobs, both Government & Industry.

--------------------------------------------------

Pf Narayana Prasad A also involved in the following CSR Activities.

1.  During Covid Pandemic, there was a challenge to provide all basic amenities including Computers to 430 Government Degree Colleges, 88 Government Polytechnics and 14 Government Engineering Colleges of Karnataka. In all, 532 Government Higher Education Institutes.

      Click on this Link...  https://helpeducatecomputers.blogspot.com/

Coordinated with Cognizant in providing 12500 Computers free of cost. These Computers were debonded. Hence, coordinated with Rotary in procuring Softwares from Microsoft, installing them in all the 12,500 computers and finally repacking & despatching to all the 430 Government First Grade Colleges of Karnataka. Thru out COVID Pandemic 1 & 2, worked both at Office & on-field. This was done without any bureaucracy hurdle and any financial transaction.

Similarly, coordinated with Infosys in providing 15,000 Computers free of cost. These Computers were debonded. Hence, coordinated with Rotary again, in procuring Softwares from Microsoft, installing them in all the 15,000 computers and finally repacking & despatching to all the 88 Government Polytechnics & 14 Government Engineering Colleges.

Together it is 12,500 + 15,000 = 27,500 Computers. Even if it is assumed that each of these Computers cost Rs. 20,000/- each, then 27,500 x 20,000 = 55 Crores Rupees

Impact - Finally coordinated with all the 532 Government Higher Education Institutes in establishing Computer Labs. Now all the Government HEIs have Department-wise Computer Labs. And because of the availability of Computers, Bachelor of Computer Science and other Computer Courses were stated in more than 150 Government HEIs, especially in rural areas. This is helping rural students in getting Job Oriented Degree Courses at rural areas itself. They need not to reach out to District Headquarters.

--------------------------------------

2.  Poor rural Girl Students, with an aspiration of pursuing Higher Education do join Government First Grade Colleges. Even though, Fee is very less or almost free in Government HEIs, still these Girls face financial hardships viz., for Books, Dress, Lab fees, Study Tour, Internet Data, travelling etc.,

(a) Coordinated with Wipro in providing Scholarships to these Girl students thru Wipro Santoor Scholarships. Under this scheme, selected Girl students get Rs. 2,000/- per month thru-out completion of their Degree course of 3 or 4 years. If it is 36 months’ course, then Rs.2000/- x 36 = Rs. 72,000/-.

In a span of few years, nearly 1500 Girl students were identified and scholarship amount was sent directly to the Girl’s Bank Account. In other words, 1500 Girls x Rs. 72,000/- each = 10.08 Crores.

Impact -Rural Girl Student who generally deprived of many things including a decent dress, to pay Lab Fee, Education Tour, University Fee, internet data - to purchase books, pen, pencil etc., With this scholarship, both Girl student as well as Parents of over 1500 these Girls are economically benefited.

(b) Coordinated with Wipro for WILP (Wipro Integrated Learning Program). Science Students who get selected under this program, will get an opportunity to pursue MTech., from BITs, Pilani. Entire fee sponsored by Wipro and also students get Rs.8 to 9 Lakhs as stipend & other benefits during the entire course period.

More than 200 Government Colleges students got selected. In other words, the stipend they received totally will be approx. – Rs.8 Lakhs x 200 = Rs.16 Crores

Impact -Rural Economically backward Students who wouldn't have dreamt of pursuing MTech/MS from Top 10 Engineering Colleges of India, became possible. Also, on their way of reaching Top IT Positions earning 5 to 6 figure Salaries.

-----------------------------------------

3.    When the Placement Cells were established in all the 430 GFGCs, for the first time in its 55 years of establishment, there was a need to train the Placement Cell Officers first.

Click on this Link

     https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/Infosys%20IT%202019-2020%20Selects

Coordinated with Infosys in providing training to these Placement Cell officers of Government Colleges of Karnataka. As a general rule, a Professor from each colleges has been designated as Placement Cell Officer. It is additional work along with Academic Work with no extra allowances. Hence Training them at Infosys was very important. These training will them to know more about Industry, Its requirements, its etiquette, expectation from students and present world job scenario.

10 batches training was arranged at Infosys Mysuru & Mangaluru. Each batch contains 50 Faculties. Duration of 8 days. Totally 500 faculties were trained and launched Placement Cell program

Impact - for the first time in the 5 to 6 Decades History of  Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka, Placement Cells were established in 400+ GFGCs to benefit over 3 Lakh students.  Over 500 + Placement Cell Officers were trained in large scale. This in-turn resulted in Strengthening the Placement Cell Activities, benefiting 3 lakhs students.

-----------------------------------

4.  Degree students, especially Government Degree College students needed exposure on various subjects including Career aspects viz., learning excel, doc files, PPT presentations, Computer languages, Management, Science, Engineering, etc.,

https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/Infosys%20Springboard%20-%20AIR%20Mangaluru%20-%20Bettampady%20GFGC%20-%20Century%20Achievers

https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/Infosys%20Springboard%20-%20List%20of%20100%20Career%20Oriented%20Courses

Coordinated with Infosys in Implementing Springboard Online Education Program. This program provides 1,000s of online courses free of cost. This was propagated amongst all the 532 Government HEIs. Students were encouraged to learn courses online and be ready for Jobs. Nearly 3 Lakh students were enrolled from Karnataka.

Impact - 100s & 100s of them completed many many courses. Some even crossed 100, 200, 300 courses. Job Skill knowledge started flowing generating Job Ready Graduates.

--------------------------------------

5.    Rural Degree students, especially Girls, were in need of Job Trainings, free of cost. This is due to their Economic background. These students had a dream to be trained at Bengaluru and followed by a Job. All these without incurring any cost on coaching & getting Job.

https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/ICICI%20Foundation%20-%20GFGC%20students%20selected%202020-21

https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/ICICI%20Foundation%20-%20Covid%20Time%20Training%20%20%26%20Placement

Coordinated with ICICI Foundation in providing 72 days of free Job Training and followed by a Job Officer. Every batch of 30-50 were trained either in Administrative works or Marketing, as desired by the student. Campaigning were done regularly. More than 1500 Government College students, including Girls, who were interested in this type of Training and Job Offers, soon after finishing their Degree attended these training in batches and everyone were offered Jobs in various MNCs, Banks etc., without any financial expectations or any obligations in return. Entire Project worth around Rs.15 Crores

Impact - Socio-Economic Impact started happening. Students, especially Girls from Rural Areas were uplifted thru Job Skilling resulting in Career of their own. Financial Independence was experienced by these Rural Students.

----------------------------------------

6.    Many a times, Government College Degree students in rural areas, need to be trained in soft skills at their colleges itself. This is a big challenge. Without any monitory support from the Government. The more you train these students in soft skills, the better work force you can expect for industry.

Coordinated with Unnati Foundation in imparting 100 hours of Soft Skill training free of cost. This Program initially started in 5 Rural Government Degree Colleges, later expanded to more than 100 Government Degree Colleges across every region of Karnataka. Each batch consisted of approx. 30 students & training them every day for 3 hours, either before the College Academic Classes starts or after the Closure of these Academic classes. It was a challenge. Thru this program, we were successful in training a minimum of 10,000 students. Majority of these trainings happened in 100s of Rural Government Colleges across Karnataka.

Impact - An half-shoot training program. An unique effort to train the rural students in their colleges before the start of the College or after the completion of the College. Enhancing the Job Skills in them as well as Personality Development.

---------------------------------------------------------

7.   Jobs were of two types. Government Jobs & Industry Jobs. There was a need inform students about Government Jobs. Any jobs for that matter, needs pre training. Every job will have a Written tests followed by few more rounds of Interview. Every year, there were lakhs of Government Jobs recruitment happens, both Central Government & State Government. Also from Government undertaking organisations.

https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/search/label/Unacademy%20Scholarship%20-%20Phase%20II%20-%20Register%20Immediately

Coordinated with Unacademy – an online portal, known for training students across India for various Government Jobs. There were two issues – First, they do take fee to train the students, Secondly, no financial assistance from Government. This is Challenge. They agreed upon giving 12,000 students free of cost of training under CSR. Then the Question arises, how to identify these many students from 3.5 lakhs studying in 430 Government Degree Colleges.

It was agreed upon to conduct an online test every six months. The top 4,000 students get free access to the online premium portal of Unacademy. They can choose any course from preparing for Civil Services of central government or Karnataka Government Jobs or Bank Jobs or SSC Jobs etc.,

Every Six months, nearly 2 Lakhs combined enrollment were happening. 12,000 students were given free access to worth of over 30 Crore online coaching facility.

Impact -

-------------------------------------------

8.    To encourage Government College students for various Government Jobs, both Central & State and undertakings, It is felt that the Faculties who are heading Placement Cells have to be trained. In the absence of any financial assistance from Government for all these, Private entities who can do this under CSR were engaged.

Coordinated with India4IAS Academy in organising one-day workshop for nearly 100 Government First Grade Colleges from 10 Districts. Wherein, Retd., IAS Officers trained these Faculties on various Government Jobs as well how to guide the students, especially Rural Students.

These Colleges are being provided with free Current Affairs notes every day, in the past 2 years. The faculties have to read this as well and most importantly, pass on to the students. All these free of Cost.

--------------------------------------------

9. To bring awareness about jobs and train the Engineering Students of Government Engineering Colleges, very few MNCs show keen interest. Even though they can do it under CSR, the arrangements, logistic etc., takes lot of time.

Coordinated with TCS, Capgemini in providing in-house and online Employability Skill training. Followed by Campus Drive. The basic aim, of course is to train them to face job interviews of any Industry. 1000s of Government Engineering students were trained to be job ready at free of cost. Some of them were absorbed by the Training MNCs itself, others were absorbed in various other MNCs.

-----------------------------------------------

10. Very less students are applying for Indian Air Force. Of many, one reason we thought may be lack of awareness about various posts available in Defence Sector.

Coordinated with Wing Commander Office in Bengaluru, propagated across Karnataka Government Degree Colleges thru online web meetings as well arranging College visits by Indian Air Force Personnel’s.

-------------------------------------------------

11. Infrastructure is one of the main concern in the Government Degree Colleges of Karnataka. They lack in good Toilets, Rest Rooms for Girls, Desks, Computers, etc., etc.,

Coordinated with Yuva Unstoppable in providing few infrastructure viz., Good Toilets, Rest Rooms, Labs, Good coat of Paint to the College Building, Providing shelter to Assembly Halls etc.,

------------------------------------------------------

https://napshindi.blogspot.com/

https://napsenglishlanguage.blogspot.com/

Started Kannada, Hindi & English Blogs, wherein many Rural as well Highly Acclaimed Writers were interviewed at their places, video recorded and uploaded in respective Blogs.

https://napstheater.blogspot.com/

https://napsmusics.blogspot.com/

https://napsjournalism.blogspot.com/

Started Theatre, Musics & Journalists Blogs, wherein many Rural Theatre Artists, Musicians, Journalists were interviewed, and video documentation were made and uploaded in Blogs

-----------------------------------------------------------

14. Neither there was Placement Cell not was there any effort to guide the rural Young Degree students about Career after Degree.

https://dceplacementcell.blogspot.com/

Started training the students for Career after Degree. And started an exclusive blog, wherein all the Photos/videos of the training aspects were uploaded as well Job Information’s. Later Helped Department of Collegiate Education also to start an Exclusive Blog related to Placement Cell information’s, for the first time in its 59years of its Establishment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

15. There was absence of any Adventure Activities to the College Students. Students should be exposed to Adventure Activities

https://napsadventure.blogspot.com/

Started Adventure Blog, wherein documentation of all the Adventure activities viz., Trekking, Rock Climbing, Rappelling, Parasailing, kayaking etc., were done, both Photos as well videos.

----------------------------------------------------------------

16. Subject wise Blogs were good. But YouTube provided a space, wherein all these Videos can be converged in one place.

https://www.youtube.com/user/napsanp

Started a YouTube Channel decades back, started reaching everyone on this earth. Both Photos & Videos were converted into short movie formats. Now there are over 1400 original contents, Over 3.4 Million viewers and over 17,000 subscribers.

            19. It was also thought that the BNU PG Students were also be well aware & appear for                             various Government Jobs, both Central & State.
